Drive from Paro International Airport to Thimpu 1 hrs Step into the kingdom of Bhutan by landing at Paro International Airport. Depending on the arrival time, we will have a quick lunch or coffee break in Paro town and continue on a picturesque one-hour drive to Thimphu. At Thimpu, immerse yourself in the vibrant streets, lively markets and the pulse of the town. We conclude our day at our hotel in Thimpu. If you arrive early, we take you to Tachogang Lhakhang enroute Thimpu. This spiritual haven pays homage to Thangtong Gyalpo, also known as 'The Iron Bridge Builder’. We walk past the iron suspension bridge and explore the confluence of the Thimphu and Paro rivers. |

Dodeydra Monastery Hike and Overnight Stay – A 300 year old Hidden Spiritual Gem Above Thimphu After lunch, Drive for 20–25 minutes from Thimphu city center to the trailhead near Taba. From there, the hike takes approximately 2 to 3 hours one way, depending on your pace and rest stops. The trail winds gently uphill through quiet pine forests, with occasional views of the Thimphu valley opening up as you climb higher. One of the most unique experiences at Dodeydra Monastery is the opportunity to stay overnight at the monastery. Visitors are welcomed to spend the night in simple guest rooms, joining the monks for evening prayers, meditation sessions, and a traditional vegetarian meal. |

Drive from Thimpu to Punakha with exploration on the way After breakfast, you hike down to Thimpu valley and drive to Kuensel Phodrang where the gigantic 169ft statue of Buddha Dordenma sits overlooking the valley. Set off on a captivating 2-hour drive to Punakha and Wangdue valleys. Along the way, we catch your breath at Dochula Pass, 3,150 meters high. On clear days, one can witness the awe-inspiring snow-capped Himalayas. Hike Option - If you would like to hike, we recommend the Lungtsezelkha hike – another lovely hike that passes through Rhododendron forests and alpine vegetation. It starts from Dochula pass – and climbs up to the peak where the Lungtsezekha temple stands at 3800m. From here, you can see the great Himalayan peaks of northern Bhutan as well as the valleys of southern Bhutan. We will also explore the 108 chortens, Lobesa market and the famed Chime Lhakhang, the Temple of Fertility. The visit involves a short nice hike through a beautiful village surrounded by paddy fields. Marvel at the newly renovated Wangdue Dzong and take a leisurely stroll through quaint market pockets. This glacial valley is the winter home of the endangered Black-necked Cranes, deeply cherished in local culture and folklore. Continue your scenic drive to Tangsibji village for an authentic rural experience. Stay overnight in a traditional heritage house built in the 1960s by one of our team member’s grandfathers. Hike to the iconic Takstang - The Tiger's Nest (3139m / 10300 ft) After an early breakfast, we gear up for an invigorating hike to the most important cultural icon of Bhutan, Taktsang Monastery. The hike is about 5-6 hours. On the way, we also visit Kyichu Lhakhang, an ancient temple dating back to the 7th century. An excursion to the famous Taktsang monastery -translated as- Tiger’s nest monastery. The temple was built in 1692 by a prominent historical figure named Gyaltse Tenzin Rabgye whose reincarnation is now a young teenager and already a prominent figure in the clergy. Your guide will complement the experience with its story. On the way back visit Kyichu Lhakhang – believed to be the oldest Buddhist temple in Bhutan built during the 08th century. Traditional hot stone bath We end our trip with a traditional hot stone bath at a farmhouse in Paro - white round stones picked up from the riversides are roasted in fire until red hot and then immersed in a wooden tub of fresh spring water sprinkled with herbs. These hot stones baths are supposed to be very curative with numerous medicinal and healing properties and has been the practice since the ancient times in Bhutan. We have a farewell dinner with our team at the hotel. |
