After a short safety briefing, the rafting journey begins along the Babai River, with a stop for lunch near the bridge before continuing downstream through peaceful jungle landscapes. By late afternoon we arrive at a secluded riverside campsite set within the wilderness of Bardia National Park, where comfortable tents await. The evening is spent relaxing by the river, exploring the surroundings, or trying your hand at fishing before enjoying dinner around the campfire under the jungle sky.

Rafting and camping in Babai Valley

Begin the day with an early morning tea while watching the sunrise illuminate the river, sandy banks, and grasslands along the Babai Valley. After breakfast, we continue rafting downstream along the Babai River as it enters some of the densest forest sections of Bardia National Park. The deeper waters and quiet jungle surroundings offer good opportunities for wildlife sightings along the riverbanks. Fishing is also possible throughout the day—either from the raft when the current is gentle or from the riverbanks where conditions allow. Midday, we stop at a scenic riverside location for a freshly prepared picnic lunch before continuing toward Shivapuri Post Camp. The afternoon can be spent fishing, relaxing, or photographing the beautiful surroundings before gathering around the campfire for dinner and another night under the jungle sky. Note: Rafting duration approximately 4 hours.

After breakfast, we continue rafting downstream toward our next campsite near Guthi Post, drifting through peaceful sections of the Babai River surrounded by dense jungle. Along the way you will hear the rich sounds of the forest and often see fresh tracks of wildlife along the sandy riverbanks. The birdlife in this region is particularly impressive, and with some luck you may spot river otters, basking Mugger Crocodile, or the endangered Gharial along the water’s edge. We stop beside the river for a relaxed picnic lunch and time to explore the surroundings, with opportunities to fish while the support team prepares the campsite for the evening. Our camp is typically set on a quiet sandy beach right beside the river, providing a perfect setting to unwind and enjoy another night in the wilderness. Note: Rafting duration approximately 4 hours.

During the day there are opportunities to pause for fishing or short explorations into the surrounding jungle. In the afternoon, when temperatures cool, our naturalist guide leads a jungle walk inside Bardia National Park, where sightings of deer, wild boar, monkeys, and numerous bird species are common, while we remain alert for signs of leopard, wild elephant, and the elusive Royal Bengal Tiger. As night falls, we return to camp to enjoy dinner and the sounds of the jungle.

Today we enjoy the final stretch of rafting as the Babai River carries us toward the take-out point near Babai Bridge. The calm riverbanks often reveal fascinating wildlife, particularly reptiles basking in the sun. Near the barrage, there is a chance to observe endangered Gharial and Mugger Crocodile, along with river turtles resting along the shoreline.

Drive to Burhan Wilderness Camps

We bid farewell to the river team and transfer to Burhan Wilderness Camp for a lovely sundowner and bush dinner. If we arrive early, we will go for a jungle safari or bush walk.
